Committees & Task Forces
The Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce &
Industry’s voluntary committees and task forces
offer Members the opportunity to contribute directly
to the work of the Chamber and to interact with
fellow Chamber Members who share common interests.
Committee participation is a great way for Members
to network, share ideas and further the Chamber’s
objectives for Greater Reading’s businesses through
its promotion, support and advocacy initiatives.
Government Issues Committee – Staff Contact: Bernie Riley
Advocates on behalf of the Greater Reading business
community about issues that will further the
economic and business climate of the region. Also
works to enhance the rapport between Chamber Members
and public officials.
Infrastructure Committee – Staff Contact: Bernie Riley
A joint committee of the Chamber and the Berks
Economic Partnership, members monitor key areas
of our local infrastructure (transportation,
telecommunications, utilities, water and sewer
capacity, facilities and sites, land use issues
and waste management) to make sure we have the
physical capacity necessary to sustain economic
growth.
Marketing Advisory Committee – Staff Contact:
Melissa Varone
Assists the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce &
Industry in marketing and communication initiatives
with advice, support, and representation.
Police Diversity Recruitment Task Force – Staff
Contact: Ellen Horan
The task force seeks to help develop and implement a
recruitment plan that increases minority
representation on the Reading Police Force and to
enhance police community relations.
Red Carpet – Staff Contact: Andrea Weist
This group of dedicated volunteers serves as Chamber
ambassadors to welcome new Members to the Chamber
and guide them through their first year to discover
all the benefits membership brings. The Red Carpet
committee also assists at breakfast programs,
mixers, ribbon-cuttings, grand openings, and ground
breaking ceremonies, as well as holding their events
such as Winter Picnic.
Technology Committee – Staff Contact: Mike Slusser
To improve the competitive position of the Greater
Reading Region through Information Technology and
Telecom-related initiatives and information sharing.
Women’s Focus Group – Staff Contact: Melissa Varone
To lead in the (provision of) growth, development
and networking initiatives/opportunities for women
in the business community as an integral part of the
economic development in Greater Reading.
