GOVERNMENT & COMMUNITY AFFAIRS

Leading Voice

As a member of The Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce & Industry, you join with other local companies to create a vibrant community and foster a more positive business climate. We keep you informed on relevant issues through our newsletters, website, committees and events. The Chamber proactively takes action to influence public policy and works to ensure that local, state and national officials hear the concerns of our members.

Through advocacy, positions, testifying, developing key relationships, grass roots activities, and tracking bills and regulations, we promote pro-business legislation and fight anti-business legislation. The Chamber is the business voice of Greater Reading taking measures to ensure that government considers business objectives and viewpoints along with our community values and quality of life when making decisions.

OUR POLICY AGENDA & PRIORITIES are core components of the Government & Community Affairs effort. We evaluate member priorities through various interactive initiatives and surveys. Member input is used to establish the Chamber's Policy Agenda developed by the Government Affairs Committee along with the Standing Issues Committees and approved by the Chamber Board. We look to identify other groups that are engaged in similar priorities so we can align and speak with one voice and effectively use available resources.

The Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce & Industry and our business membership think we should do more than look to government for answers. We shared responsibility to participate in the formation of policy and solutions.

Chamber Positions are established when an issue is deemed appropriate.  We use these positions to advocate on behalf of the Greater Reading business community to support legislation and public policy that will further the economy, quality of life and business climate of our region.

GRASSROOTS NETWORK & EVENTS are membership engagement opportunities that utilize established relationships with local, state and national officials, agencies and administration to inform, educate and develop an awareness of key issues and positions taken by elected officials and those seeking office.  We provide closed door, face-to-face exchanges between Chamber members and elected officials to ensure that our policy agenda remains at the forefront of their agenda.  Our special summits and forums on key business issues with experts provide information and insights on policies that affect the business community.

GREATERREADINGVOICE.COM Take action and stay connected!  The Chamber advocacy website provides an opportunity to learn more about business-related policies and issues at the local, state and national level. It  is an interactive website where you can track key legislation and regulations, contact elected officials, learn more about candidates, register to vote, apply for an absentee ballot, and much more. Speaking as one voice, we have the power to strengthen the prosperity of the business community.

POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE (GRCCI PAC) is a PA state registered PAC designed to take our Government Relations program to the next level taking action to elect pro-business candidates to public office.  With anti-business forces, spending dollars to support their agendas a PAC is one way to make our pro-business policy agenda and economic growth message heard.

The Chamber's Endorsement Taskforce determines if the Chamber should get involved in the particular election.  They are responsible for making a recommendation for the non-partisan endorsements of candidates based on an objective evaluation of each candidate's alignment with the principles and the public policy goals of the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
