Technology Leads the Way in the Classroom

Students are learning to use industry standard software to build their career skills.

At Kutztown Area High School, students decide how they want to complete reports and projects. “They open up their Apple iBook laptops and choose to write a traditional paper, or to create a multi-media report—an iMovie, a Flash Movie, a PowerPoint presentation, or a web page designed with Macromedia Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks.” Micromedia Case Study, 2005. Superintendent Dr. Brenda Winkler states: “Our students are developing important critical thinking and collaborative skills while using cutting-edge communication technology.”

Internet 2 Is Here!

Led by more than 200 U.S. universities, working with industry and government, Internet2 develops and deploys advanced network applications and technologies for research and higher education.

Teachers in participating school districts use Internet 2’s diverse capabilities to enrich and enliven learning. “The Wide Area Network (WAN) for Berks County school entities was launched on July 1, 2006. It provides an affordable, high-quality, high-speed, regional network connecting school districts, vocational-technical schools, and the BCIU for Internet, Internet2, and other online resources. The resulting broadband infrastructure enables the school entities to access, use, and share meaningful curricular resources, such as virtual fieldtrips, digital libraries, video-on-demand, distance learning offerings, and more” according to Richard Deemer, Berks Intermediate Unit.

Business Partners with Educators

The Berks Business Education Coalition’s mission it to coordinate the resources of the business community in partnership with the education community, toward selective initiatives which will improve student competency. Career Pathways is one such initiative - designed to help students explore and make career choices.

Career Pathways leads students to success!

Our career pathways structure offers the student:

  • Opportunities to see that the skills and knowledge acquired in school relates to a range of career choices

  • Opportunities for a more successful high school education - from the academically gifted to those who need remedial education

  • Opportunities to learn about broad career options

  • Assistance in developing meaningful educational plans
